Sallie House: One of the Most Notorious Haunted Houses in the US

Located in Atchison County, Kansas, this unassuming house has been the subject of intense scrutiny by both paranormal investigators (including Sightings) and the media. What makes this such an unsual haunting is the fact that the entities can inflict physical harm on people.

The Sallie House haunting is in a class by itself. There have been full-bodied apparitions and objects flying through the air. Items have moved been misplaced or lost only to reappear or show up later or at another location. Phantom furniture has been heard along with thumps, thuds, knocks, scratching and the sound of animals and human voices. Although some voices have been heard with the naked ear, there have been an amazing amount of EVP (Electronic Voice Phenomena) captured, further depicting the voices of men, women and children. Many have experienced extreme smells. Lastly, and most famously, there has been physical harm to the occupants and investigators in the form of scratches, burns and cuts. Although the majority of these attacks have often been centered on Tony Pickman, there have been a few others who have also been the focus of the physical harassment.

The Sallie House website is brand new, but you’ll find plenty of information that will intrigue you. For instance, there is a thread in the forum that shows quite a list of former owners. That should tell you something, right?

The Medium to Return in November

I was very disappointed when The Medium didn’t return with the new Fall season line-up. Then my mother-in-law told me that NBC planned to use the show as a “filler” if one of the other, unrelated shows didn’t work out. Sure enough, the low-rated serial Kidnapped folded, leaving the 10pm Wednesday slot open for The Medium. It will begin showing sometime in mid-November. Better late than never.

Haunted Book World

Louie Stroiber has a thing for plush stuffed squirrels, arranging items to his own peculiar liking and testing the patience of the newer employees at the bookstore where he supposedly takes up current residence. The problem is, Louie has been dead since Nov. 1, 1977. Marshfield Book World manager Amy Hagar swears he haunts her store.

In the 1920’s, the building at 315 S. Central Avenue was a grocery store. Then it became a barber shop, which Louie owned an operated. According to Amy, Louie died of a heart attack in the back of his shop, which is the middle of the book store today.

Louie is not a malevolent ghost because Amy and some of the other long time employees enjoy his company. However, he loves to tease the new-hires with his antics.
