Daniel Petru Corogeanu, a priest at the Holy Trinity convent in Tanacu village of Romania, has been jailed for 14 years for conducting an exorcism that led to the death of a nun who he believed was possessed by devils. Irina Cornici died from starvation while being chained to a cross at a secluded convent in the north-east. The botched ritual occurred in 2005, when Irina was 23 years old.
Corogeanu and the four nuns involved were convicted of manslaughter. The nuns got jail terms ranging from five to eight years, plus excommunication from the church. He is now banned from the priesthood.
This case has shocked Romania as well as the Orthodox Church, which plans to implement psychological screening tests for future monastery candidates. The Vatican issued its first new exorcism guidelines in 1999, urging priests to use modern psychiatry to evaluate those who wish to be exorcised.
All of the defendants plan to appeal their case.

Although hundreds of people have flown into space since the dawn of the space age, it is unlikely that we will ever become an interstellar species. Our bodies aren’t capable of handling the conditions of space travel for long periods of time. Roger Launius, an eminent space historian and chair for the Division of Space History, believes that humans and the machines they use to explore space will evolve together. How they will evolve and the length of the evolutionary process is hard to predict.
He also believes that we will eventually colonize on the moon and possibly Mars. Yet, creating an Earth-like environment for astronauts to live in would be prohibitive in cost and time. One possible solution is changing the astronauts’ physiological makeup so they may adapt to new environments, essentially turning them into Cyborgs.
We are already seeing the benefits of mechanical transplants in the forms of pace makers, hearing aids, and bone replacements. Given the leaps and bounds of technology and science, the probability of a Cyborg society no longer sounds as fantastical as it did fifty years ago.

“Antlers 10 feet across. A hide so thick it stops bullets. White. Surly. Elusive.”
The legend of Maine’s monster moose began when it was allegedly spotted in 1900 and continues today. Loren Coleman of Cryptomundo.com believes that hunters are seeing an albino moose (pictured above). Mark Latti, spokesman for Maine’s Department of Inland Fisheries and Wildlife said, “We’re talking about an animal that wouldn’t be able to hide very well in the Maine woods.”

Ellen Lloyd of ufoarea.com wrote a provocative article about how UFOs travel through space. She talks about wormholes, star gates, dimensions and time warps as a means for aliens to travel effortlessly between universes. Most of what she wrote reminded me of the science fiction novels and movies I’ve read and seen over the course of my life. Still, it was very interesting reading, coming from a scientist.
