A New Shot of the Face of Mars

In 1979, NASA captured an image of what appeared to be a face on the Cydonian plain surface of Mars. Former NASA scientist, Richard Hoagland became obsessed with the idea of this anomaly as being an architectural ruin, left by aliens. When NASA and the US government refused to examine his theory by exploring and taking more shots of The Face, he accused them of a cover-up. They and the media retaliated by ridiculing him.
Despite this, he and his team continued to pursue this story until NASA relented and took some more pictures of The Face and its surrounding structures. Hoagland claims that this new image revealed girders, windows, and walls.
Excited by this possibility, I went to the University of Arizona website and downloaded the 300mb image to my computer. Then I downloaded Express Viewer because my standard software programs couldn’t handle the sheer size of this file. I zoomed in on the image to try and find what Hoagland was talking about and failed. I could zoom in only so far before the image became a mess of pixels.
However, I zoomed in on the upper left corner of The Face and found that it was shaped in a 90º angle. I’ve never seen anything in nature shaped like that. This has me intrigued and wishing that NASA had taken some ground pictures because this one is too high up to see anything definitive.

I thought I would also share this image of the five-sided pyramid, a shot taken during the 1976 expedition. You’ll find more images and diagrams at The Enterprise Mission.
