Ghostly Interviews

Bodelwyddan Castle

Bodelwyddan Castle in Debighshire is home to an unknown number of ghosts. Whether these ghosts are from a former girls’ school or a military recuperation hospital is also unknown. Because the castle records were destroyed by a fire, there is no way to determine who lived on the grounds . . . unless you ask the ghosts.

That’s what paranormal investigator, Laura Whitley, plans to do. She and her team are looking for volunteers to hold evening and overnight vigils. Once they determine that a ghost haunts a particular area of the castle, Whitley will seek out the ghost and try conduct an interview with it by using a series of “yes” or “no” questions.

NBC Builds Fall Season on the Supernatural

NBC on Monday unveiled a fall lineup heavy on the supernatural, but light on comedy.

Heroes, about a supernaturally endowed group of fighters, all with different powers, is the biggest hit among NBC’s new programs this year, and the fall will bring a spinoff show and three other series involving the supernatural:

* Heroes: Origins: This show, featuring a new heroic character each week, will stretch the season for Heroes.
* Bionic Woman: A remake of the 1970s show, with Michelle Ryan in the lead role.
* Journeyman: A series about a San Francisco newspaperman who travels through time to alter people’s lives.
* Chuck: a computer geek has spy secrets embedded in his brain and is forced to become a government agent.

I was glad to hear that The Medium is still on the air, although it’s slated for Sunday nights. This may or may not be a bad thing, depending on the football schedule and when the new season of Battlestar Galactica begins. I’m looking forward to watching Heroes, but will have to check the availability of the DVD for the last season so I can catch up.

EFF Sues Uri Gellar Over You Tube Clip

The Electronic Frontier Foundation (EFF) has filed a lawsuit against self-proclaimed psychic, Uri Gellar and his company, for misusing copyright claims to silence his critics. This came after Gellar issued a takedown notice against You Tube user, Brian Sapient, for posting a video with a 3-second snippet of James Randi debunking him. Gellar followed this up by suing Sapient in a federal court for copyright infringement.

The footage in question belongs to Public Television Service NOVA, which was considered fair use under the Digital Millennium Copyright Act. I think it’s safe to say that Gellar will lose his case against Sapient and the EFF.

Most Haunted Live Coming to the US on June 1st

‘Most Haunted Live’ is coming to the U.S. for the first time on Friday, June 1, at 8 p.m. ET!

For the first time in the show’s history, the ‘Most Haunted’ paranormal investigation team will bring their hit special, ‘Most Haunted Live,’ to the United States for a live investigation from a top secret, yet-to-be disclosed haunted location. The Travel Channel will broadcast an unprecedented seven straight hours live on Friday, June 1, from 8 p.m. through Saturday, June 2, at 3 a.m. ET. Presenter Yvette Fielding, spiritual medium David Wells, and the rest of the ‘Most Haunted Live’ team will conduct the investigation.

Armed with night-vision cameras, thermal-imaging devices and other paranormal investigation tools, the team will perform a thorough investigation of the location and attempt communication with the paranormal. The team will have extensive access to the location, including areas that are not currently open to the public.

The ‘Most Haunted Live’ U.S. experience will be extended online with multiple Webcams streaming live images from select areas within the location. Users will be able to actively participate in the broadcast by posting paranormal sightings, well wishes for the team, suggestions on rooms to investigate, and predictions and premonitions on the boards, through text messaging and FAXing. Selected user-submitted comments will be presented during the interactive segments of the event, as well as scroll across the bottom of the screen during the live investigation.

A downloadable ‘Ghost Detector’ application will also be available for mobile phones. It’s designed to detect subtle changes in electromagnetic fields, which is believed to indicate paranormal activity.

About the Investigators

Yvette Fielding, Host/Lead Investigator, is best known as the face, heart, soul and scream of the world’s leading television ghost hunt. Along with her husband Karl, she started Antix Productions, the company behind the global success that is Most Haunted.

Ciaran O’Keefe, Parapsychologist/Investigator, joined Most Haunted during Series 3 in 2003. Among the crew, he is known as the soft-spoken voice of reason. As a parapsychologist, it’s Ciarán’s role to evaluate all aspects of an investigation. Using a wide range of paranormal equipment and experiments, Ciarán has to determine whether the team’s experiences could have been paranormal or attributable to other factors. It’s a tough job, but somebody has to do it!

A lecturer and researcher at Liverpool Hope University, Ciarán specializes in parapsychology, investigative psychology and music psychology. He earned his doctorate at the University of Hertfordshire with a thesis entitled, “Assessing the content of advice from practitioners claiming paranormal ability.” Off camera, he’s friendly and down-to-earth, with a knack for animal impressions and a fondness for wearing a Ghostbusters t-shirt.

David Wells, Psychic, joined the team as a psychic medium during 2004. His first investigation was at the Greengate Brewery. It was considered one of the most exciting investigations in Most Haunted history when Stuart witnessed a beer barrel rolling towards him of its own!

Karl Beattie, Director of Investigation, has worked on outside broadcasts at festivals such as Glastonbury and traveled worldwide as an intrepid cameraman across all genres: sports, music, current affairs, and light entertainment. Karl met Yvette on the BBC’s City Hospital. It was a whirlwind romance. Karl and Yvette were engaged within six weeks and they married six months later.
