Peter James was 8 years old when he encountered the ghosts of three young fire victims. They not only became his companions for the next three years, but introduced him to a world which he called the “other side.” I had no recollection of the name until I saw his face. I’d watched him on Sightings way back in 1991, as he patrolled the Queen Mary, telling us about the ghost of the little girl who had drowned.
James passed away on July 31, after suffering a heart attack. If you’d like to learn more about his life, Ghostvillage.com has a great article called Being Psychic with Peter James.

Dark Water received a lukewarm reaction from the public for good reason. While there’s plenty of spooky atmosphere, it disappoints in the hair-raising suspense department as well as the surprise factor. Despite this, I enjoyed the movie for what it had to offer. I especially liked where they chose the setting, in a seedy apartment near New York City.
Jennifer Connelly did a great job of portraying Dahlia Williams, a newly divorced mother with a lot of emotional baggage. Dahlia and her daughter, Ceci, move into a cramped rundown apartment on Roosevelt Island to start a new life. Dahlia’s soon-to-be-ex is not making life easy for her. She’s taking prescription pills for her migraines, but the constant flashbacks of scenes with her alcoholic mother haunt her to the point where we wonder if she isn’t losing her mind.
Mysterious noises and leaks come from the upstairs apartment, which she discovers was abandoned by its tenants. If that weren’t enough, Ceci begins to talk to an imaginary friend named Natasha. This friend sends Dahlia on a mission to find out if her estranged husband is playing mind games.
The movie ends on a satisfactory, if not sad, note.

Award-winning photographer Matt Hoyle has a new book coming out in September called, “Encounters: With the Strange and Unexplained.” This book chronicles a paranormal road trip that he took last summer, photographing 60 witnesses to alien spacecraft, haunted houses, poltergeists, etc. Matt has a website where you can view his photos, some of which look more like paintings. He did a great job of catching the emotion of his subjects and their spooky surroundings. Check them out at Matt Hoyle’s Encounters.

My curiosity was sparked when I read a passage in the article, Who’s Seen Wilton’s Blue Lady?, where ghost hunter Fionna Broome experienced a frightening encounter with a demon. It frightened her so much that she removed her articles about Vale End Cemetery for several years because she didn’t want anyone going there. She eventually put the articles back up, along with a narrative about her encounter with this demon and his minions, citing a warning for anyone who may want to visit Vale End Cemetery.
However, in my opinion, the risks aren’t worth it. Look for ghosts elsewhere. Something at Vale End is not a ghost, and it could be lethally dangerous.
