X-Files: The Ultimate DVD Collection

The X-Files Ultimate DVD Set

I was an ardent fan of the X-Files when it premiered in 1993, only to find myself disappointed at the end when it became clear that the writers weren’t going to answer the questions that had kept fans glued to the set for nine years. That said, I enjoyed the first eight seasons very much. My husband and I looked forward to seeing what freaky weirdness Agents Mulder and Scully were going to face each Friday night.

When I saw this set on A&E’s shopping link, my curiosity was piqued. This promises to be an excellent set, with footage of every frame ever filmed of the X-Files, plus hundreds of bonus items on 61 DVDs. I can’t even begin to picture how big the box will be or where I would put it if I decide to order this collection. I’ll have until January 9th to make a decision, as the promo for the sale will end.

A&E Creates a Buzz with Its “Whispering” Ad

Imagine yourself walking down a street in NYC. It’s 12:30 at night. A woman’s voice whispers into your ear, asking, “Who’s there? Who’s there?”

You look around. The street is deserted, except for a bum sprawled out on the curb. You think your imagination has gotten the better of you, and you start walking again. Then the voice whispers, “It’s not your imagination.”

Would you freak out?

Fast forward to approximately 7:30 a.m. You find yourself walking down that same street to go to work or meet a friend for coffee. That same voice whispers the same message. This time, you happen to see a billboard with a rooftop speaker. The disembodied voice you heard last night is coming from that speaker.

Is this ingenious advertising or invasion of privacy? Joe Pompei, president and founder of Holosonics, said the creepy approach is key to drawing attention to A&E’s “Paranormal State” without adding to the noise pollution that is so prevalent today.

Paranormal State Team

Alex Weprin of BC Beat did not find the concept all that innovative, but felt that it defeated the show’s concept. While he has a less than favorable opinion of the ad and the show, I can neither agree nor disagree because I haven’t had the chance to watch it yet.

Paranormal State is the newest ghost hunting show in a growing stable of supernatural shows. Whether it will become as popular as Ghost Hunter or Supernatural remains to be seen.

Dead Siblings Removed from Toddler

Last year, I found a story about a man who had the fetus of his twin brother removed after 36 years. Today, I found a similar story about a 1 year-old girl who underwent a five-hour operation to remove the fetuses of her twin sisters.

“They are believed to have been two triplets that did not develop,” she told AFP, adding that the girl had initially been diagnosed as having abdominal tumours.

The similarity of these stories makes me wonder just how common this condition is.

Mary Jane’s Grave, by Stacy Dittrich

Mary Jane's Grave, by Stacy Dittrich

“Long known for its history of being haunted by a witch who was hanged and buried there, Mary Jane’s Grave has been a teenage staple for decades. Local historians have since disproved the area as mere folk lore, but when a local teen is found brutally murdered at the grave, Detective Sergeant CeeCee Gallagher is forced to re-investigate the history, and find its link to the teen’s murder. With the aid of her powerful co-workers, Naomi and Jeff Cooper, CeeCee is thrown into the depths of a secret so horrifying; locals have kept it hidden for over a hundred years. Finding the chilling connection between Mary Jane, and an eighteenth century murderess, Ceely Rose, CeeCee refuses to believe in the supernatural occurrences that witnesses claim are taking place at the grave. CeeCee’s investigation takes her across the country in her hunt for the true killer while she tries to keep her relationship with FBI Agent, Michael Hagerman, from unraveling. CeeCee takes readers along with her to face their darkest fears, while holding their breath until the secret of the grave, and the identity of the killer, is revealed.”

I found the announcement for this book in my news aggregator this evening and thought about picking it up because I enjoy crime novels as well as supernatural stories. Then I read that it was the third in a series of the CeeCee Gallagher series. For more information about Stacy’s books, visit her website.
