“I was driving home after a Chinese meal with my wife Moufida. As we entered the Alma tunnel I saw to my left a dozen shady figures on a tiny pavement by the side of the opposite carriageway. They were standing in a long line. The sight was unforgettable. The pavement is narrow and next to fast-moving traffic. It was certainly not a sensible place to stand around. A few seconds later there was an almighty bang and a flash of light. I realised there had been a crash.”
Record producer Jacques Morel, 59, plans to publish his theories in a book called The Witness. Whether it will produce anything that we haven’t been told already remains to be seen. My instinct tells me that this is another “get rich off a tragedy” book.

The demise of The X-Files series cries out for an assessment of its appeal. In the volatile world of big-time television, a decade-long run is no small potatoes. Clearly, the show said something to audiences that most programs don’t. What was The X-Files’ special magic? What made it intriguing to tens of millions of viewers?
Erich Goode takes a high-brow approach to his article, X-Files: Why was it appealing?. The article is well-worth reading because he makes some good and interesting points.
The reasons why I was hooked on the show are much simpler.
Reason #1: I liked the characters. Mulder and Scully were an excellent team. David Duchovny and Gillian Anderson had a good chemistry going on.
Reason #2: Mulder’s backstory intrigued me. Did his sister really get abducted by aliens? Who was this Marlboro Man, and why was he so bent on stopping Mulder from finding out the truth about his missing sister?
Reason #3: The show’s writers and specialists did an excellent job with the plot twists and special effects. Each episode always left us thinking and discussing afterwards.
My husband and I were hooked on this show for five years. After that, the episodes began to get stale. I began to wonder if Mulder was ever going to find his sister. Eventually, we gave up on it for other programs because we didn’t think we’d get the answer.
The show hung on for another five years before it was finally cancelled. Since then, I haven’t seen anything else like it. Have you?

This summer has seen a sharp decrease in the appearances of crop circles. Several theories are brewing as to the cause of the decrease. Hot weather sounds the most logical to me because I believe that these creations are caused by humans and not extraterrestrials.
Another theory is that farmers are sick of getting their fields trampled and are destroying the circles as they appear. That makes perfect sense. Although these creations are beautiful, I can’t imagine the amount of money these farmers lose every year.

On the opposite side of the spectrum, UFO enthusiasts fear that the aliens have given up on us and moved on to another galaxy. With all the political upheaval going on right now, who can blame them? I’d get the heck out of Dodge, too.
