Several recent reports of sightings of unidentified flying objects (UFOs) in the UK have been linked to power cuts that have affected large numbers of people.
The first UFO was spotted in Chorley, Lancashire, in November, where 14,000 residents were affected by a loss of power for a few minutes. The power failure was confirmed by the local utility company, but an exact cause was not confirmed.
Eyewitnesses reported bright, metallic lights in the sky, which coincided with the power cut, and disappeared after several minutes.
The second sighting took place over Bury St Edmunds Cathedral in Suffolk on December 1st and also coincided with a power cut. The Police confirmed that they had received reports of the grey UFO being in the sky for up to 12 minutes, according to the local press.
It has been suggested that UFOs are linked to power cuts for many years – in 1965 30 million people in the USA were affected by a widespread blackout that started near Niagara Falls which coincided with hundreds of sightings. It has been suggested that UFOs may actually drain our power sources, probably unintentionally.
Earlier this year, Virgin Media conducted research to identify the UK’s UFO hotspots. Lancashire came third on this list, and Suffolk followed in sixth place. Virgin Media’s research documented 609 sightings in the UK since 1961.
However, the true figures are likely to be much higher, since most sightings go unreported. One thing is for certain – the instances of power failure certainly outnumber the recorded instances of UFO sightings, but who knows for sure what’s really going on out there in our skies?

Saturn has baffled scientists as NASA’s Cassini orbiter picked up a strange, huge aurora around the planet last week that reportedly should not be there.
“We’ve never seen an aurora like this elsewhere,” said Tom Stallard, a scientist at the University of Leicester, England. “It’s not just a ring of auroras like those we’ve seen at Jupiter or Earth. This aurora covers an enormous area across the pole. Our current ideas on what forms Saturn’s aurora predict that this region should be empty, so finding such a bright aurora here is a fantastic surprise.”
Auroras are caused by charged particles streaming along the magnetic field lines of a planet into its atmosphere. The famous northern and southern lights that can be seen here on Earth are instigated by solar particles. Saturn’s main aurora is caused by the solar wind and is capable of changing dramatically according to variations.
However this new aurora, which was spotted on infra-red camera, lights up Saturn’s polar cap and sometimes fills the region from around 82 degrees north all the way over the pole. It is also constantly changing, even disappearing within a 45-minute period.
“Saturn’s unique auroral features are telling us there is something special and unforeseen about this planet’s magnetosphere and the way it interacts with the solar wind and the planet’s atmosphere,” said Nick Achilleos, a Cassini scientist at the University College London.
When Saturn is mentioned, those who believe in supernatural phenomena would refer to George Adamski’s Inside the Space Ships which offers a first-hand account of his contact with the Saturnians, including a visit to the Saturn mothership.
It is suggested that the Saturnian extraterrestrials exist outside three-dimensional form and are capable of shape-shifting, materialising with a human-like appearance so as not to alarm us. Some folk have even speculated that the Saturnians were created by the Martians as slaves.
We continue to wait for real proof and truth of these matters, but it is clear that much more work will need to be done before a scientific explanation is found for the strange occurrences around Saturn.

ET enthusiasts are watching the skies again as a bizarre pink cloud appeared over the Mayfair area of London on October 21.
Mysterious pink light over London
The peculiar, bright pink lights seemed to hover and break up, but not before plenty of spectacular pictures were shot.
Although the Met Office has suggested that this phenomena is simply the lights of the city reflected in a cloud, this has not stopped speculation on other, more unusual explanations for the occurrence. Some are saying it was an extra terrestrial portal, others believe it was a light ship and there have even been claims that the event was a symbol of the rising consciousness of humanity.
Whatever the explanation, it is certainly the case that UFO sightings and prophesies of alien visitations are on the increase.
Psychic Channellers are again predicting that our “Galactic Family” is soon to reveal itself and more dates, such as October 24 and November 11, have been deemed to be significant.
The bright, pink light was quite a sight to behold, however, and has only added fuel to the fire for those hoping that we are not alone in the universe.

Scientists at The Deep, a state of the art aquarium in Hull, UK, are bemused by a photo taken by a 21 year old visitor on her mobile phone.
Spooky head in aquarium
The picture, taken by Emma Place in an aquarium tunnel, shows a shark in its tank, with the appearance of a ghoulish man’s head looking up at it.
The aquarium’s bosses have spent hours searching CCTV footage to confirm that Place and her father were the only ones in the tunnel at the time the picture was taken. The idea that the spooky head could have been a reflection has been eliminated.
Colin Brown, Chief Executive of the Deep, said “We are a scientific centre and we’re sure there must be a logical explanation. It’s just that we can’t find it. There must be some sort of optical illusion or reflection of images between the window, but we cannot figure out how it has been done.”
Ellis Taylor, an Oxford based supernatural investigator, however, has other ideas about the nature of the creepy photo.
“To believe that this world is all there is…it’s so unscientific man” Taylor says on his website. “Time and space is slipping and that is why inhabitants of otherworlds are increasingly being captured on sound and image equipment.”
