The Lingering Spirits of The Alamo

The Alamo

The Alamo is considered to be one of the most haunted sites in the nation. Considering the heavy loss of life that occurred there, it’s no wonder that some refuse to leave. I had the pleasure of visiting this place back in 1982. During that time, I accidentally got separated from my family.

Instead of staying where I was so they could eventually find me, I wandered around the grounds, looking at the paintings and the artifacts. If I had encountered a ghost, I never realized it. I just kept walking until I met up with my family.

In sharp contrast to my experience, others have encountered the ghosts of The Alamo. One of the most notorious is that of a girl, dressed in white, who is seen looking out what appears to be a second story window. When the visitors walk inside the building, they realize that there is no second floor and the window is twenty feet above the floor.

The Whaley House

Thomas Whaley couldn’t have chosen a worse place to build his house–on top of an old public gallows site and a Native American burial ground. While I found no reports of hauntings during that time period, I read the chronological history of this family, who suffered from devastating financial losses as well as the deaths of two children.

The Whaley House

Thomas Whaley, Jr. died at 18 months, cause unknown. His sister, Violet, died at 17 from an alleged suicide. An article from Eeeek-net suggests that Violet may have been murdered by her father or her sister, Corinne. I found it interesting that Corinne chose to be buried away from her family’s plot. She also wrote a book about San Diego, but failed to mention her family or their contributions to the city’s growth.

Today, visitors claim that this stately house is haunted by several ghosts. Reports of footsteps, strange odors, apparitions and orbs have been reported. Regis Philban tried to sleep in the house in 1974 while hosting a local TV show, but fled in terror.

Eeeek-net investigators concluded that the ghosts of Thomas (who was abusive to his family), his wife and Violet still reside in that house. For more information about The Whaley house hauntings, visit Viewzone.com.

Ex-Patients Protesting from Beyond the Grave

Grove Hospital, Shardlow

Phil Massie ignored the inexplicable banging that greeted him when he arrived at Grove Hospital in Shardlow, Derbyshire. He and his team got to work, stripping the old hospital in preparation for a housing development. It wasn’t long before they began to experience some very unusual things while working inside that hospital.

Workers have reported seeing figures flitting through the abandoned wards and feeling icy blasts that come at them from out of nowhere. Perhaps the most bizarre is the orbs, which multiplied as the crew continued to work.

“The more work we do, the more things seem to happen - and the more orbs seem to appear. I have never seen anything like it in my life.”

Local psychic Jason Daine, claimed he was able to speak to a number of disgruntled ex-patients, who told them why they were there. He plans to return to the hospital with his ghost hunting equipment to determine the volume of paranormal activity inside the hospital. In the meantime, Phil Massie and his crew continue to work at the hospital despite its spooky conditions.

The I-4 Dead Zone

The Dead Zone of Interstate 4

Since 1963, nearly 2,000 accidents have occurred on Interstate 4 in Central Florida, between Daytona Beach and Orlando. People who have driven on that stretch claimed to have seen orbs floating across the highway, apparitions of hitchhikers standing on the side of the road, phantom trucks, etc. You’ll hear many stores about this highway.

According to author, Charlie Carlson, a family of four were buried beneath the Interstate, where the accidents occur. Research dates the graves back to the 1880s and affiliates them with a settlement called St. Joseph’s Catholic Colony. They belong to a German family, two adults and two children, who died of yellow fever.

Carlson claims that they are still there. “In fact, when I-4 came through in 1960, the graves were roped off and marked for removal but they never removed the graves. Instead, they dumped fill dirt on top to elevate the new highway.”

Susan Christensen, a medium, visited the highway and has twice witnessed four orbs cross the highway. She also claims to have felt the unhappy presence of the deceased family.

Despite the legends of this quarter-mile stretch of highway, there is one indisputable fact. Those graves remain under The Dead Zone.
